Safety Statement

Introduction
Éigse Mrs Crotty is a summer school and festival of traditional Irish Music, with particular emphasis on the concertina. The festival is a celebration of the life and music of the great lady of Irish Music; Mrs. Elizabeth Crotty, who lived at the Square, Kilrush. Éigse Mrs Crotty 2008 will run from Wednesday 13 August to Sunday 17 August. The main features are as follows:

Six Open Air Céilíthe will take place in The Square, Kilrush.
An Official Opening and Concertina Club at Teach Cheoil.
Workshops for concertina, flute, fiddle and set dancing.
Concertina receitals in local pubs.
Festival Concert with mainline act "At The Racket"
Memorial Mass.

We, the organising committee, are aware of the possible risks involved in the organisation of the above events and, as part of our planning process, have contacted the local Gardaí, the Red Cross and Kilrush Town Council and have arranged for steward to be at each event. In consultation with these bodies every effort is being made to ensure the safety of those who will attend any part of our festival. Consultation has taken place regarding issues of crowd control, emergency health procedures and traffic planning. These bodies will work with our committee to ensure an enjoyable and safe weekend.

Festival Management Team
The Safety Officer for Éigse Mrs. Crotty is Bríd O'Mahony and she will be contactable for the duration of the festival at 086-839 9043. Each event has its own event manager and our operations manager, Marie Nolan, supervises all events. The event manager will be familiar with all the safety issues surrounding their own event. The team is as follows: Marie Nolan, Liam O'Looney, Vincent O'Halloran, Lisa Walsh, Peig Martin, Rebecca Brew, Kevin Clancy and John Kennedy.

Risk Areas and Control Procedures

Classes and workshops: All exits from the school are clearly marked (as they are during term time) and will be made known to those attending the workshops.

Céilí: As a large number of people, estimated at about 300-400 people. is expected to attend at the , a number of safety precautions have been taken. The Red Cross will be on location for each céilí and will administer first aid if required. The local Gardaí will be aware that the event is taking place and can be at the scene within minutes of being contacted. Stewards will be at the céilíthe and will be identifiable to the public. They will assist as required. Stewarts will also assist traffic moving about The Square.

The Official Opening: This event will take place at Teach Cheoil. Exits are clearly marked. They will be pointed out to the audience prior to the Pfficial Opening.

Festival Concert: The Master of Ceremonies at the concert will point out the exits to the audience. These exits will be kept clear at all times. The concert venue has capacity for about 280 with an additional 20 or so musicians and committee members. Stewards will be available to assist audience members if required.

Vandeleur Walled Garden: This event will take place at the Walled Garden. Stewards will assist with parking, ensuring that access into and out of the area is kept clear at all times.

Contacts: Stewards will all have mobile phones and the phone numbers of the emergency services, the Gardaí and the doctor on duty with them during each event in case emergency help is required.

Insurance
The festival committee has obtained public liability insurance through PJT Insurance Services, 17 Main Street, Swords, Co. Dublin.
